Our Model

Learn what we mean by reciprocity at Bassé Root

We wanted to make reciprocity a no-brainer

Because there’s no need for it to be a mystery how to go about it.

We wanted to build reciprocity into your experience of engaging with Bwiti and iboga from the start, without you having to do anything extra.

Whether you’re joining us on retreat, receiving guidance or spiritual care, or joining us to learn more about Bwiti culture, we want to be operating the kind of organization whereby your engagement with us is intrinsically linked to supporting the Bwiti community in Gabon, in a sustainable and culturally sensitive manner.

So we’ve set up Bassé Root

A new way of sharing Bwiti and iboga, with equitable access for our guests, and reciprocity to the community in Gabon built in.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Bassé Root Church, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to offering a sanctuary for the exploration and practice of the Missoko Bwiti tradition in the United States in a time when it is needed most.

A transparent financial structure

Providing our six-day, all-inclusive, residential iboga retreats is how we pay in full for all of our baseline costs to exist as a non-profit (like staffing, rent, maintenance and administration)…

…Which means that almost everything beyond this, which is donated to Bassé Root, directly supports the equitable access and reciprocity missions that we are here to undertake.

Scholarships

A goal of being 50% supported per retreat

For guests who cannot afford to come otherwise, and/or for their access to our Spiritual Care programmes.

Projects in Gabon

Repairs and reinforcements in Gabon

We asked our community in Gabon how we could best support their needs, and on the basis of these ongoing conversations, we will be supporting three particular initial projects, in the Bifoun province of Gabon.

Phase 1: Rebuilding homes destroyed by storms for three families who are currently without housing.

Phase 2: Setting up a medical healthcare clinic, setting up a new primary school closer to Lambrene (within better walking distance for the children) and providing toilets for the current school.

Phase 3: Introducing a self-led agricultural programme, enabling the village people to grow their own food and initiate related sustainable, local job opportunities.
